Ian Woollams MBACP

Everyone deserves happiness, but sometimes life’s experiences may have caused us to lose our way. I offer a trusting, confidential relationship, a place to take stock of your present situation.

My ideals and method

I help clients improve their lives through times of distress, insecurity, loss, change and confusion.

We may have become stuck; blocked by thoughts, feelings and behaviours that seem to be beyond our control. Through exploring these difficulties, we can create more options for ourselves. Raising awareness in this way can help resolve issues and allow us to move forward in our lives.

The fact that you are seeking a therapist is the first step towards positive change. You are starting on a journey that you need to take; having a trustworthy traveling companion is a good idea.

I work short-term with individuals who have a particular concern in their life and also longer term with those who wish to explore themselves and their relationships in more depth.

I provide a safe, professional, friendly and confidential service to both young people and adults.

About me

My initial stimulus for entering counselling was to help with the emotional demands of one of my children  who has a learning difficulty. Understanding how I may best support these demands has been an enormous help. For the last four years I have been the local area co-ordinator (Manchester/Cheshire) for the Dyspraxia Foundation. With my personal experience of Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND), I am able to be especially sensitive to the impact SEND can have on the individual and the family.

Life is change, but you can choose how to respond to these changes. Being aware of your actions, thoughts and feelings in the here and now can help you can help to gain awareness.

I work from private and peaceful rooms in Cheadle Hulme in a group counselling practice. I also have a quiet and private room in The Life Centre Cafe in Romiley, centrally located right opposite the train station. If it’s more suitable for you due to personal or physical difficulties, I can come to your home.
